Åsa Lucanders beautifully hand rendered illustrations have a still and silent quality that could only come from a mind that was formed in Finland. Her dark and thoughtful subject matter compliments the style in a way that lends itself to paper just as well as it does to pixels, which is probably why her short film for channel 4's mesh scheme "The Imperfectionist" was shortlisted for the 2008 British animation Awards. The same bizarre, scando-weird characters that inhabit her animated work seem just as alive when trapped on a sheet of paper.
